Frequently Asked Questions about Firewalking
Is it hot?
Yes. You will be walking across hot coals. The fire is tended throughout the evening to maintain a safe and effective coal bed.
Is it safe?
Firewalking is a guided experience that is carefully facilitated with safety in mind.
There is always some level of risk when working with fire, which is why clear guidance is provided throughout the entire experience. Participants are expected to follow all instructions and arrive clear-minded and present so they can fully engage in the process.
Will I get burned?
Some participants may experience what is often called a “kiss” or hot spot. This may feel similar to a mild sunburn and typically resolves quickly.
Most participants walk without injury, especially when they are present, prepared, and supported throughout the experience.
How can you walk without being burned?
There are both physical and energetic explanations.
From a physical perspective, factors like movement, contact time, and the properties of the coals play a role.
From an energetic perspective, the experience includes intentional preparation that helps shift your focus, awareness, and connection to the process. The group dynamic and shared energy also contribute to the experience.
Will it hurt?
You will feel heat and the texture of the coals beneath your feet.
For most participants, the experience is not painful, though sensations vary. Many describe it as intense but manageable, especially within the supportive environment of the group.
What should I wear?
Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move easily. Avoid long or flowy items.
You will be barefoot for the walk, and clothing should be able to be adjusted to about mid-calf. Layers are recommended, as temperatures can change throughout the evening.
What if it rains?
Firewalks can often continue in light rain. The fire is typically hot enough to sustain itself.
Adjustments may be made depending on conditions, and the event will be paused or rescheduled if weather creates unsafe conditions.
What if I change my mind?
You are never required to walk.
This is always a personal choice, and there is no pressure. Many people still have a meaningful and powerful experience even if they choose not to walk.
Do you have to walk?
No. Participation in the firewalk itself is always optional.
The experience includes preparation, reflection, and connection, all of which are valuable regardless of whether you walk.
Have you ever chosen not to walk?
Yes.
There have been times where I chose not to walk because it did not feel aligned for me in that moment. That experience reinforced that firewalking is not about proving anything—it is about listening to yourself and making the choice that feels right for you.
Do I just show up and walk?
No.
Firewalking is a guided experience that includes preparation, community building, and intentional practices before the walk. This process helps you feel supported, connected, and ready for the experience.
